The separation of the vitreous off the retina creates centrifugal forces in \u200b\u200bthe macula and creates the hole.<\/p><p>Vitreo macular traction is also an abnormally strong attachment of the vitreous to the macula.<\/p><h2>What are the main symptoms?<\/h2><p>They appear from a mild alteration in the quality of vision to significant distortion of images or even loss of central vision over a period of weeks to months.\u00a0They can be very mild as they occur primarily in one eye and are often not noticed unless the normal eye is covered to exclude overlapping images.\u00a0Unfortunately, this is also the main cause of delayed treatment in the above diseases resulting in poor visual outcomes.<\/p><h2><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-485\" style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 1rem;\" src=\"https:\/\/retinaeyeclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Screenshot_7.jpg\" alt=\"\u039f\u03c0\u03ae \u03a9\u03c7\u03c1\u03ac\u03c2 \u039a\u03b7\u03bb\u03af\u03b4\u03b1\u03c2\" width=\"612\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/retinaeyeclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Screenshot_7.jpg 612w, https:\/\/retinaeyeclinic.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Screenshot_7-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/h2><h2>What is the treatment?<\/h2><p>Treatment for symptomatic, full thickness macular holes is surgical.\u00a0It is performed with vitrectomy surgery under local anesthesia and usually lasts about an hour.<\/p><p>The recovery of vision is NOT rapid, but usually biphasic, with the initial results in 3 months, while the improvement of vision can continue to improve up to a year after surgery!<\/p><p>In the early post operative period the patient should keep his face down for 3 days.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Macular hole What is it?
